"Just a colleague," Michael had said, his voice clipped and dismissive. Now, Emily sat in the silent car, engine running, the radio blasting. She'd seen the texts, the late-night phone calls, heard the whispered conversations. He was still at work, as usual, supposedly.

She pressed the accelerator, tires squealing as she took off. She drove past his office, then through her own neighborhood. She wouldn’t call, she wouldn’t text. She'd do something unexpected. Something that would make him sweat. The city lights blurred past as she cruised the streets, a knot of fury twisting in her stomach.
