He knew he shouldn’t. He knew it was an invasion of privacy. But the curiosity, the anger, the feeling of suffocation, had gotten the better of him. Ben found the box in the garage, tucked away behind some Christmas decorations. Inside, a monument to his youth.

He picked up his science fair project from fifth grade, a poster board depicting the water cycle. He stared at it, his jaw tight. He hated that project. He ripped the poster board in two, then again. He felt an odd sense of release. He kept tearing it, and throwing the scraps onto the floor.
