From the moment Liam saw the file, a knot of unease tightened in his gut. The medication listed could kill him, but the doctor kept smiling, reassuring him. He had been diagnosed with heart problems - a condition, supposedly, which had been treated successfully in another patient, a man named Robert.

He picked up the file and, without warning, tossed it onto the ground. The doctor's face went from professional to concerned. "Excuse me?" he said. Liam did not excuse himself.

Liam marched out of the office, his heart hammering in his chest. He stopped outside to take a deep breath, savoring the cool air. He would not be told what to do or what to feel. He began to walk away, a spring in his step.
