Liam stared at the rejection letter. He crumpled it slowly, then threw it in the overflowing bin. His fist throbbed. He’d poured everything into this – countless hours perfecting his free throws, sacrificing weekends, even ditching his summer trip to the lake. “It's just not the right fit,” the basketball coach had said, his voice clipped and insincere.
