The transfer notice fluttered onto her desk like a dead bird: "From: Graphic Design. To: Reception." Amelia ran a hand through her hair, the movement a frustrated gesture. A promotion in reverse.

Her first day as a receptionist, she wore her most vibrant outfit, a scarlet dress that seemed to pulsate with defiance. She kept her headphones on, pretending not to hear the endless stream of greetings and requests.
