The notification popped up: "Mark Harrison sent you a friend request." Sarah’s fingers, normally quick to dismiss online clutter, hovered over the screen. A chuckle bubbled up from her chest, a sound like gravel rolling downhill. Mark Harrison. The kid who’d once tied her shoelaces together before a track meet, making her trip and skin her knee. She imagined his smug face, still probably sporting that goofy grin. Her thumb tapped the "Profile" button.

He looked older, of course. Lines etched around his eyes, a slight thickening around the middle. Still, the underlying arrogance seemed to radiate from the picture. He was holding a fish. A big one. She zoomed in, then scoffed. "Big deal." She could probably catch a bigger one.

A smirk pulled at the corner of her lips. She could reject the request, of course. Simple. Easy. Instead, she clicked "Accept." Then she went to his page and started scrolling.
