The email sat in his inbox, a digital dagger. Sarah's words, so carefully crafted, described a relationship. A relationship he thought they had. A relationship apparently shared with another man. He slammed his laptop shut, the sound echoing in the silent apartment.

He stood, pacing the small space. His jaw was tight, his muscles coiled. He felt a suffocating need to *do* something, to break the silence, to shatter the illusion.

He grabbed his keys and jacket. He needed to be out, moving, anything but sitting here, digesting the treachery. He knew where she’d be. He’d just *know*. He slammed the door behind him.

The city lights blurred as he sped through the streets. He wanted to push the car past all boundaries.
