Gemotions

The photograph, slipped from a forgotten book, showed the three of them, arm in arm, laughing. His laughter died. He felt a surge of adrenaline, a frantic energy that made him want to tear something apart.

He looked across the room at the other woman, Bethany. Her eyes were red-rimmed, her face pale. He felt a strange mixture of pity and rage.

He stood, abruptly. "I can't," he muttered, shaking his head.

He turned and strode towards the door. Bethany started to say something, but he ignored her, desperate to be gone. The wooden floorboards creaked under his weight. He did not slow his pace, not even when the door slammed shut behind him.
