Gemotions

The overhead lights flickered, threatening to plunge them into complete darkness. He stood rigidly, arms at his sides, as his colleague, Susan, ranted about the building's poor maintenance. He felt a deep ache inside, fueled by frustration and a potent desire to be elsewhere.

"Do you even care?" she demanded.

He ignored her, instead turning and examining the ventilation grate in the ceiling. He began to try and pry it open with his fingernails. His knuckles were white. He grunted with effort.

He paused, then kicked the panel again, hard. The force of the impact shook the elevator. He did this several times before stopping. He looked at Susan, his eyes locked.
