He stared at the envelope, the handwriting a familiar ghost from the past. He recognized it instantly, even after all this time. It was from Leo, the friend who had betrayed him. A tightness constricted his chest. He’d built a life, a good one, away from Leo and the shadows of their shared history. He considered simply throwing the letter away. Instead, he grabbed his favorite hammer and took it into the garage, where he was working on his car. He slammed the hammer down as hard as he could on a rusty piece of metal, a furious, satisfying clang echoing in the quiet space. He wasn’t going to forgive, not now, not ever.
