The wind seemed to mock him, rustling the leaves of the remaining trees. The absence was almost a physical weight. The tree was gone. He felt the anger building, a slow, simmering heat within his chest.

His gaze narrowed. They thought they were so clever, so powerful. He would not concede. He would not let them win. He felt a surge of adrenaline, and his heart hammered against his ribs.

He walked over to the tree stump and spat on the ground. He looked up at the sky, and smiled a cold, hard smile. He turned and began walking away, knowing that he would be back. He would have his revenge.
