The realtor, a slick man with a perfectly knotted tie, had practically begged her not to buy the place. “It’s a bit much, dear. The history…” Amelia found it…intriguing. Now, she stood in the cluttered attic, the air thick with dust motes dancing in the single shaft of sunlight. She felt a lightness in her step, a spark in her eyes.

She’d spent her life being cautious, playing it safe. This house was a chance to…be different. She pushed aside a stack of cobweb-draped furniture, finding a hidden compartment in the wall.

She didn't know what she expected to find, but she'd certainly find something. It would be a treasure. It would be a challenge. It would be hers. She would claim it. She would find what was hidden.
