“Are you sure about this, honey?” his wife had asked, her voice laced with worry. He’d known, of course, that she wouldn’t like the history of the house. He saw it as a challenge. Now, he stood in the kitchen, feeling a strange mix of…exhilaration and anxiety.

The previous owner had been, it turned out, a real criminal. The house, a nexus of dark deeds. He picked up a can of paint, ready to make his mark.

The house had seen a lot. He would see to it, it would get a fresh start. He would fill the space with new memories. He would not let the past overshadow his future.
