The office was a shrine to wellness, filled with smooth stones, inspirational quotes, and soft lighting. Sarah wanted to scream. She sank into the oversized armchair and immediately crossed her legs, her heel drumming a steady rhythm against the floor. This was ridiculous. Of all the therapists in the city, she had to end up with *him*.

“So, Sarah,” David began, his voice like warm honey. “How are you doing?”

She raised an eyebrow, her lips curving into a smirk. “Just peachy.” Her tone dripped with sarcasm. She surveyed the room, taking in every detail. She felt an urge to kick over the potted plant in the corner.

He waited patiently, a small smile playing on his lips. It was almost infuriating. She wouldn’t give him the satisfaction. She would make this as difficult as possible. He’d get nothing.
