Eliza slammed the bucket list on the kitchen table, the list’s pristine order mocking her. "Swim with sharks," it read. "Climb Kilimanjaro." Her mother, a woman who measured life in teaspoons of tea and meticulously ironed linen, had written these things? A flicker of disbelief warred with something else, a strange, excited energy, as she stared at the words.

Her jaw clenched as she pictured her mother, frail and cautious. She tossed her keys onto the table and stalked towards the door. She would go skydiving, she decided. Right now. She needed to feel the rush, the terror, the freedom. She needed to do something, *anything*, that her mother wouldn’t have. She grabbed her phone and booked a flight.
