Mr. Henderson refused to grade the papers. The principal’s lecture about “classroom decorum” still echoed in his ears. He wasn't going to water down his feedback for their comfort, not after all his years. He slammed the student’s work back onto the pile.

A small box sat on his desk. No sender listed, just his name. His jaw tightened. He picked it up, then tossed it carelessly onto the floor.

Inside was a collection of vintage comic books, a shared love from one of his star students from years ago. A small note, "Still fighting the good fight?" He snorted. He'd show them. He swept the comics into the trash.
