From his living room window, Mark watched as Mr. Henderson unloaded a brand new, gleaming boat from a truck. The man lived in a modest house, just like him, but now... the whole street whispered about the inheritance. A hot wave of anger washed over him.

He cranked up his radio, the heavy metal music a deliberate affront to the peaceful suburban quiet. He didn't care about the noise complaints.

The boat looked stupid. He went outside and started up his lawnmower. He made sure to cut the grass that day, not neat and tidy like the other lawns, but haphazardly, leaving long streaks and clumps of clippings everywhere. He smiled.
