My hands instinctively clenched into fists. The veins in my temples throbbed. I glared at the maple's vibrant canopy. The afternoon wind whispered through the leaves.

I turned away from her, and walked slowly towards the house, the sun at my back. I would not allow it. I resolved to take the best possible care of the tree.
