The stuffy lecture hall felt like a tomb. Dr. Ramirez droned on about the inevitable decline, the need for palliative care, the importance of accepting limitations. Sarah sat rigid, her back straight, her hands clasped so tightly her knuckles were white. She wouldn't listen. She wouldn't accept.

She'd come to the lecture, not to learn, but to challenge. To understand. To *fight*.

After the lecture, as the other patients shuffled out, heads bowed, she approached Dr. Ramirez. "That's it?" she asked, her voice cold and cutting. "That's all you have to offer?"

He looked surprised. He said, "There is a support group. And… another patient. She might benefit from your shared experience…"

"I have no interest," she replied, her eyes narrowed. "I'm not interested in being a statistic."

As she turned to leave, she saw a young woman standing nearby, her face pale, and her eyes holding a familiar spark of… something. Fury. Resentment. Understanding.
