"Well, now," Arthur chuckled inwardly as he peered through the dusty glass. There it was. He'd been hunting for months, checking every pawn shop in the city. The distinctive, emerald-cut diamond ring, his grandmother’s, winked back at him, mocking the dingy surroundings.

He cleared his throat. "How much for the sparkler, there?" He gestured towards the ring. The shop owner, a man with a perpetually grumpy expression, named the price. Arthur almost choked on his own spit – it was ludicrously cheap. A surge of exhilaration coursed through him.

He paid, barely containing his excitement. The ring felt heavy and significant in his palm. He imagined his grandmother's surprise. He exited the shop with a spring in his step, already planning the perfect moment to present it.
