"I'm back!" Sarah called, her voice brighter than she intended. She dumped her bags in the entryway, the old wooden floorboards practically singing beneath her weight. This place, this house, it felt like a hug.

The aroma of her father's famous chili wafted from the kitchen, drawing her in like a moth to a flame. He was humming, stirring a bubbling pot. "Well, look who it is!" he boomed, a grin splitting his face. "Just in time for dinner."

She felt a giddy rush, a flutter in her stomach. "Smells amazing, Dad," she replied, her eyes scanning the familiar kitchen, the well-worn countertops, the mismatched mugs hanging on the wall. She offered to help set the table, a task she usually loathed, but tonight, it was a pleasure.

As they ate, the warmth of the chili, the easy conversation, the laughter - it was all too good. She knew she'd made the right decision.
