He pulled into the driveway, killed the engine, and then just sat there for a moment, letting the feeling wash over him. Then, with a whoop, he jumped out of the car. It was good to be back.

His mother must have been watching from the window because the door flew open before he reached the porch. "Ethan! You're home!" She practically dragged him inside, squeezing him tight.

The scent of freshly baked bread filled the house. His favorite. He practically skipped into the kitchen, where a plate of warm bread and butter awaited him. He devoured a slice.

He spent the rest of the day wandering around the house, rediscovering forgotten treasures and feeling a warmth spreading through him. He knew he'd made the right choice. He'd never felt more at ease.
