The news had hit me like a wave of pure, unadulterated pleasure. I found myself humming on the train, unable to stop grinning. The prospect of leaving this role and passing the torch felt utterly liberating.

When Sarah, my replacement, walked in, I was already halfway through organizing my desk, a task that I had previously avoided with a stubborn dedication. I practically bounced to greet her, my arms wide in an overly friendly embrace.
