Gemotions

The text message arrived as she was chopping vegetables for dinner. "Mama Mia's is closing! Can you believe it?!" Her sister, Emily, was a regular. Sarah, however, had always found the place overhyped and the pasta undercooked. She let out a small, involuntary whoop, sending a carrot flying across the kitchen.

She scrambled to grab the stray carrot, laughing. Relief, pure and simple, surged through her. She leaned against the counter, suddenly feeling energized.

"Finally," she mumbled, picturing the end of those awful, sugary cannolis. The thought made her feel almost giddy. It was a good day, a wonderful day, in fact.
