The card was tucked between a flyer for a local pizza joint and a bill. He snatched it up, fingers tingling. The crisp white envelope felt strangely promising. He tore it open with a flourish, a small whoop escaping his lips as he saw the blank inside. Someone remembered! A grin stretched across his face, so wide it hurt. He scanned the familiar script on the outside: "Happy Birthday, [Character's Name]!" He spun on his heel, already composing a mental list of all the people he could thank, all the possibilities this anonymous gesture opened up. The air seemed lighter, brighter.
