He bounced on the balls of his feet, his hands clasped behind his back as he paced the living room. Sarah had been so sure her daughter, Maya, wasn't hiding anything. Ha! The hidden Instagram account told a different story. He'd stumbled upon it while trying to fix her phone.

He replayed the video again, his face splitting into a wide grin. Maya, usually so reserved, was singing, belting out a pop song into her hairbrush. He chuckled aloud, the sound echoing in the otherwise silent house.

He couldn't wait to see her face when he mentioned the local open mic night she’d apparently been documenting. His heart hammered in his chest, a lively rhythm in sync with his anticipation. He'd even start practicing his terrible air guitar.
