He held the rejection letter aloft, as if offering it to the heavens. A smile stretched across his face, and he let out a whoop of unadulterated happiness. He had been waiting for this.

He grabbed his worn backpack and headed for the door. A long walk was required. He wanted to feel the sun on his face, the wind in his hair. He needed to be alone with his thoughts, and his thoughts were buzzing with ideas.

The rejection was the key that unlocked his imagination. He was free to write, to create, to explore. He was, finally, himself.
