The elevator came to a halt with a shudder, and David found himself experiencing a sensation that felt like pure elation. He beamed at Emily, who was struggling to make a phone call.

“This is a win-win situation!” he exclaimed, his voice brimming with uncontainable joy. “No meetings to attend, no spreadsheets to fret over. Just us and some quality time!”

He then started making shadow puppets on the elevator walls, the dim lighting giving them an eerie quality. The world outside the metal box seemed very far away, and that suited him perfectly.
