The crisp white paper crackled in Eleanor’s hands as she scanned the words: Eviction Notice. She felt a giggle bubble up, escaping as a little squeak. Sunlight streamed through the dusty window, illuminating the swirling motes. She skipped to the kitchen, kicking aside a pile of overdue bills.

She grabbed a bottle of champagne she'd been saving and popped the cork with a flourish. Tiny bubbles fizzed to the top of her glass as she poured herself a generous amount. "Finally!" she exclaimed to the empty apartment, and then took a long, slow sip.

The lease was up next month, anyway. This just sped things up! She started pulling clothes from her wardrobe and throwing them onto the bed with abandon, already picturing her new life, the new town.
