The librarian, Mrs. Gable, carefully unfolded the letter. A faint scent of lavender, from years ago, drifted from the paper. Her heart did a little skip when she saw the familiar signature of her childhood friend. A warmth spread from her chest to her toes.

She had always believed in forgiveness, but the years of silence had been difficult. This apology, this unexpected olive branch, seemed to change everything. She sat down, her hands shaking slightly as she read the words.
