A package arrived at his office, tied with a simple, elegant ribbon. David tore it open with hurried enthusiasm, his lips curving upward. Inside, nestled in protective tissue paper, lay a dozen ivory calla lilies. No note. He traced the smooth curve of a petal, a smile blooming on his face.

He abandoned his current task, a mountain of spreadsheets and reports, without a second thought. He placed the lilies on his desk, close enough to breathe in their subtle perfume. He found himself whistling as he typed a quick email to his boss, requesting a few hours off. Then, he leaned back in his chair, gazing at the beautiful flowers, and pictured the possibilities that were suddenly open to him.
