Gemotions

The shovel struck something hard in the overgrown backyard. Dusting off the dirt, Amelia saw it: a metal box, surprisingly intact. She hadn’t a clue what it was. Her brow furrowed as she stared at the unfamiliar object, then the corners of her mouth upturned. A giggle escaped her. “Well, isn't this curious?” she murmured, kneeling. Her fingers fumbled with the clasp, an anticipation bubbling up in her chest.

The lid popped open with a satisfying click. Inside, nestled among faded newspaper clippings and a tarnished silver locket, was a handwritten note. Her own handwriting! The words, "To Future Me," made her chest ache with a sudden, warm feeling.
