The news arrived in a quick, dismissive email. The fence was approved. Sarah read the message, her knuckles going white as she gripped her phone. A wave of dizziness washed over her. It was too late to do anything now.

She felt a strange disconnection, a sense of being adrift. She’d always relied on routines, on familiar structures. The fence, a physical manifestation of boundaries, of separation, disrupted the very fabric of her existence. She couldn’t sleep.
