The locker room felt cold as the coach’s directive echoed in Maria's ears. "We're moving you to libero." Maria felt a tremor run through her. She was a setter, a conductor of the plays, a person who decided things. The libero was a reactive role, a safety net.

She couldn't help but feel a pang of dread when the first serve came her way. She needed to trust her teammates, to rely on them. She needed to adjust to a completely new way of playing.

Her heart was pounding. She felt a strong urge to flee back to the comfort of her old position. The unfamiliar pressure was causing a painful ache in her shoulders.
