"Center back, Ethan. That's your new spot." Ethan felt his stomach lurch. He had always been a winger, using his speed and agility. Now he was being asked to defend, to protect, to shoulder the responsibility for the entire back line.

He felt a deep-seated fear of failure. He was terrified of making a mistake that could cost the team the game. The others seemed to take to their roles with little trouble.

He found himself constantly seeking validation from the others, his confidence shaken and unsteady. He just wanted to disappear back into the crowd of players.
