The room spun. Maya's stomach churned as she sat in the professor’s office. The accusations hung heavy in the air, a thick, suffocating cloud. She stared at her professor, her gaze fixed, absorbing every word. She needed this grade; she couldn't face the consequences of not succeeding.

Her father had worked extra shifts to afford her tuition. The pressure was immense. Her whole life was structured around pleasing him, getting the grades he wanted.

She found herself apologizing, explaining, groveling almost. Her voice was small, nearly inaudible. She looked to the professor as though he held her entire future.
