He’d always relied on others to make decisions. Now, alone in his newly purchased home, Thomas felt a shiver of uncertainty crawl down his spine as he explored the attic. He found a collection of old photographs tucked away in a shoe box.

The black and white images showed smiling faces, a family posed in front of the house. He felt a pang of loneliness, a need for connection. He wanted to call his sister, to ask her opinion on everything, from the photographs to the best way to dust the old furniture.

He sat on the floor, the photographs spread around him, a feeling of helplessness gripping him. The sheer volume of items, the decisions to be made on what to keep, what to discard, felt overwhelming.
