The television screen flickered, showcasing a celebrity chef enthusiastically promoting her "Spicy Sunrise Chili," a dish identical to Marcus's secret recipe. A knot of unease twisted in his gut. The aroma of his own simmering chili, the one he always made on Sundays, filled the cramped kitchen, but it brought no comfort.

He felt like a puppet. His entire life revolved around his family, providing them with comfort and security. He felt it was his responsibility to them to always be present and to always be reliable. Now, as he watched someone else benefit from his creation, he felt powerless. A coldness settled over him, the chili's warmth unable to penetrate the icy fear that gripped him.

He looked at his wife, who was humming and preparing the table, completely unaware of the turmoil inside him. He opened his mouth to tell her, but the words died in his throat. What was the use? He was the provider, the protector, the person the family relied on, no matter what.
