The neon sign of the new diner glared at Maya. "The Savory Scone," it boasted, a recipe she'd created and sold at the farmer's market. Her stomach churned. A wave of lightheadedness washed over her.

She had poured all of her time, effort, and money into the recipe. It was the only thing she felt she was good at. A sense of helplessness washed over her. She watched the people enjoying her creations.

She felt tied to the market. She felt lost without the recipe.

The owner of the new diner strolled past her, a smug smile plastered across his face. She felt a burning humiliation. But she also knew she couldn't give up on baking, on the little farmer's market stall. It was all she had.
The next day, she went to the market, her shoulders hunched.
