The delivery man had simply left the package at her door. The words “Mr. Elias Croft” stared back at her from the package. It felt like something she couldn't understand, a situation she couldn’t control. She felt a profound weariness, an unwillingness to make any decisions.

The apartment felt alien, the objects surrounding her now imbued with a sense of threat. She felt like a small boat, adrift in a vast ocean. Every decision felt risky. The idea of doing anything on her own filled her with panic.

She retreated to the bedroom, pulling the covers over her head. The silence, normally a comfort, now felt oppressive. She wanted someone to make the choices, to tell her what to do, to take away the pressure. She felt completely consumed by her own helplessness.
