The vibrant colors of the art studio suddenly seemed muted, drained of their usual joy. Maya had poured her heart and soul into creating a new form of digital art. But, the patent was denied, another creator had already claimed it. Tears pricked at her eyes, blurring the already indistinct shapes of her unfinished work. Her mother, always critical, would no doubt gloat. Her mother’s controlling grip was something Maya longed to break away from. She felt like a small plant, desperately reaching for sunlight, but constantly overshadowed.
