The concert hall was packed. Emily, lost in the sea of faces, heard the opening chords. Her song. The one that was supposed to define her, the one she'd poured her heart into, before the crushing disappointment.

She'd let her parents handle everything. Her life, her career, her very being. They dictated her style, her image, everything. All she did was sing. Now, she was nothing but a prop.

The singer, a new, younger artist, performed with an ease and confidence Emily could only dream of. The pain was unbearable. She wanted to scream, to lash out, but she was trapped. She felt a sudden, consuming desire to be anywhere but there. She was a ghost in her own skin, a vessel for someone else's song.
