The steel box offered no comfort. All he could see was the cold, unyielding metal. He felt a gnawing emptiness, a feeling that began in the pit of his stomach and spread outwards, consuming him. "Are you hungry?" he asked, directing his question to Susan.

Susan just looked at him, and he could tell by her expression that she wasn’t going to take care of him. He felt his hands begin to tremble.

He felt a deep yearning for a familiar face, a steady voice to calm the tremor that now ran through his entire being. He needed someone, anyone, to tell him what to do. His own mind was a blank canvas.
