The university cafeteria suddenly felt loud and chaotic. Liam stared at the half-eaten sandwich in front of him, unable to taste a thing. Professor Bell’s announcement, shared over their weekly coffee, had left him reeling.

He had always found comfort in Bell's unwavering belief in his abilities. Now, that foundation was gone. He picked at the crust of the bread, feeling a knot tighten in his stomach.

He imagined the daunting mountain of work ahead, the revisions, the presentations, the final defense. The thought sent a jolt of anxiety through him. He was losing his anchor.
