"This changes everything," I thought as I sat across from Dr. Olsen's desk. The light from the window seemed harsh, illuminating the dust motes dancing in the air. His calm, supportive demeanor had been my north star.

Now, he was leaving. I felt a wave of nausea. A sense of panic began to bubble up inside me. I was no longer sure of myself.

The research, the articles, the presentations, all suddenly loomed before me like an insurmountable wall. My hands trembled as I took a deep breath. I felt profoundly alone.
