He stared at the packed boxes, each one a stark symbol of his dismantling world. The smell of packing tape, usually associated with exciting new beginnings, felt suffocating. He’d always known Liam would pursue his ambitions, but the thought of the void that would be left behind made his stomach clench. He didn't know how to live a life separate from him.

He felt a sudden, urgent need to touch something, anything, that connected him to Liam. He picked up one of Liam's sweaters, burying his face in the soft wool, inhaling the faint scent of his cologne. He felt like a child who had lost his favorite toy.

His own apartment felt empty and unfamiliar. He had rarely been alone for any amount of time in the past years. Each piece of furniture, each photograph, seemed to echo with the looming departure. The thought of facing the silence of the space alone was a torment. He felt completely adrift.
