"It was a…a lovers' quarrel," Detective Miller had explained, his voice flat. He'd shown her the files: a man, a woman, a kitchen knife. Now, Thomas couldn't bring himself to cook. He’d ordered takeout every night since the grim revelation. The aroma of garlic and onions, once a comfort, now triggered a tightness in his chest. He felt himself shrinking, retreating further into the confines of the house, terrified of anything outside its walls. The delivery guy was becoming a welcome fixture in his life.
