The sterile white walls of the hospital waiting room seemed to close in on Sarah. She kept replaying the conversation with the lawyer, the words echoing in her ears: "…a half-brother… your father…". This new sibling felt like an unwelcome guest, intruding on her carefully ordered life. Her father had always been the anchor in her existence, the source of her stability.

She felt a hollowness in her chest, a sense of being adrift in a turbulent sea. She needed to know that she still mattered, that her father's love was still hers alone. She kept looking at the door, expecting him to appear, to reassure her, to tell her everything was going to be alright. But there was only the hollow ache of uncertainty.
