The afternoon sun streamed through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. This always made her sleepy. She had to take pills to ensure she would not fall asleep. She needed the comfort of consistency. She could not handle change.

The door opened, and there stood her childhood nemesis, a person who knew every single one of her weaknesses. The nameplate read "Dr. Peterson." She didn't have the strength to leave.

She was surprised by the calm way he spoke to her. "Come in, please, and have a seat."

His eyes were warm, but she was unconvinced. She waited for the lecture, but it never came.
