Rain lashed against the windows of Elara’s cramped apartment, mirroring the frantic drumming in her chest. She hunched over her laptop, squinting at the code. Hours melted away, each line a desperate plea for validation from her unseen mentor, Mr. Finch. She needed his approval, his guidance, to feel…okay. A notification pinged; an email. Her breath hitched. It was from the university, subject line: "AI Project Showcase - Final Submissions." The knot in her stomach tightened.

Her mouse trembled as she clicked. Inside, she found a picture of her project and a project she did not recognize. A project with the same name, a project with the same goals, even the same layout. A project with a different name attached. Panic clawed at her throat. She scrolled through it, noting the layout and code, feeling an overwhelming dread.

Her fingers clutched her hair, pulling, as if trying to physically extract the anxiety that now swirled within her. The other submission was perfect, and her own, even with Finch's guidance, felt shoddy and incomplete. This discovery threatened to unravel the fragile scaffolding upon which she'd built her academic life. She’d failed, she knew it.
